2009 Vocational Graduate Certificate in Food Industry Management

This qualification was accredited on 30 December 2009 by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority.

On behalf of Skills Victoria the VFITB contracted David Trembath in April to complete the development of a Vocational Graduate Certificate in Food Technology and Management. This qualification is designed for tertiary educated managers who require highly specialised skills using sophisticated technology in quality regulated environments in the diary, confectionary and general foods manufacturing industries.

The Victorian Food Industry Training Board Change Drivers Report of February 2008 identified a need to accelerate high end skills development for the dairy sector. The proposed qualification will provide managers with detailed industry knowledge in food science and technology, industry specific technology and the regulatory environment. Principles of lean manufacturing, where emphasis is placed on eliminating waste in all areas of production whilst still producing top quality goods need to be addressed by all industry sectors. This qualification aligns with the Victorian Skills Commission priority to deliver higher level qualifications to strengthen economic growth for Victoria.
